Tom Thompson OBE

Tom Thomson chairs modular construction solutions firm Quick Block Ltd and two start-ups and was founding chair of a legionella testing company.
He was a foreign and war correspondent with international media group Reuters, ran a sales and marketing division and latterly was global managing editor of the 2,500-strong news operation. He was then managing editor of Scotland’s main newspaper group.
He is honorary secretary of the British Academy’s Council for British Research in the Levant with institutes in Jerusalem and Amman. He was a global fellow of London University’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
Thomson served on the board of the British Council, the UK’s £1.2 billion international cultural relations organisation, chaired the risk committee and was on the audit and finance committee.
He chaired the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and was appointed OBE for services to classical music.
